Validation programme for professional qualification as shop assistant

What the profession involves

The shop assistant places products in the shop in a commercial manner and operates the cash register to achieve the commercial objectives of the organisation. The shop assistant:

  • deals professionally with customers and with theft and theft prevention,
  • receives payments and operates the cash register,
  • prepares products and articles (labelling, theft protection, etc.),
  • supplies departments and organises products,
  • manages inventory, receives products and goods and verifies delivery,

The shop assistant handles customer complaints professionally. The ability to work in a solution and target group-oriented way and work effectively in a team is important.

If you want to demonstrate your experience as a shop assistant at a validation test centre, you do so through a practical test and an interview.

The tests’ instruction language is Dutch.

You will be tested on your ability to:

  • prepare and present a minimum of 15 products and articles,
  • process a minimum of two online purchases,
  • look up job-related information within sales,
  • professionally handle a minimum of three customers where you will answer a question from a Dutch-speaking, French-speaking and English-speaking customer,
  • deal with an incident of (attempted) theft,
  • receive and check a minimum of two deliveries,
  • handle a minimum of one customer complaint professionally,
  • receive payments and operate the cash register for a minimum of three customers,
  • help at least one customer with an automated POS system,
  • stock and maintain a defined area of the store,
  • track inventory.
