Validation programme for professional qualification as an electrical technician
What the profession involves
The electrical technician installs, wires, connects and operates residential and conventional (non-complex) tertiary or industrial electrical installations. The electrical technician looks for faults and makes repairs according to applicable regulations on electrical installations and performs checks on electrical installations.
The electrical technician:
- prepares a planning and divides the tasks of the technician and/or installer;
- produces a simple, conventional residential, tertiary and industrial electrical diagram;
- assembles and connects components for an electrical installation;
- commissions and performs checks on residential and conventional (non-complex) tertiary and classic (non-complex) industrial electrical installation;
- assists with non-conventional (complex) tertiary-sector and industrial electrical installations;
- diagnoses malfunctions in residential, tertiary and industrial electrical systems and repairs defective elements.

If you want to demonstrate your experience as an electrical technician at a validation body, you will need to take a practical test, a written test and an interview.
The language of instruction for the tests is Dutch. You need at least a basic knowledge of Dutch to take the tests.
You will be tested on whether you can:
- read a connection diagram;
- install, assemble, wire and connect an electrical installation within a limited time frame;
- put an electrical installation into operation;
- can diagnose an electrical installation involving at least two of the following faults:
- grounding fault;
- connection fault;
- overload fault;
- schematic fault;
- short circuit.
