Validation programme for professional qualification as an auto body mechanic

What the profession involves

The auto body mechanic does disassembly and assembly of necessary body parts according to safety rules and regulations to enable the repair process.

The auto body mechanic:

  • prepares his own workplace and the vehicle;
  • tracks down faults on the vehicle, makes simple repairs and reports necessary replacements to a responsible person;
  • performs smart-repairs;
  • dismantles, assembles and adjusts removable body elements, fittings, fasteners and covers;
  • keeps an eye out for defects and damage not shown on the work sheet;
  • carries out a general inspection as a function of the repair;
  • dismantles and assembles the necessary parts for a post-accident technical inspection;
  • resets and reinitialises the vehicle;
  • fills in the follow-up documents of the intervention and passes on the information to those involved;
  • is bound by manufacturer’s regulations, environmental and safety regulations, the guidelines of the person in charge and the work sheet.

If you want to demonstrate your experience as an auto body mechanic at a validation body, you do so using a practical test.

The language of instruction for the tests is Dutch. You need at least a basic knowledge of Dutch to take the tests.

You will be tested on whether you can:

  • dismantle removable body elements, equipment, fasteners and covers on at least 1 vehicle;
  • detect a minimum of 3 faults on a vehicle;
  • carry out simple repairs;
  • fit removable body panels, equipment, fastenings and covers on a minimum of 1 vehicle.
