Validation programme for professional qualification as a bodywork sprayer

What the profession involves

The bodywork sprayer performs finishing work (surface preparation, painting, etc.) on body parts according to safety rules and regulations to paint the parts in the original or in a new colour.

The bodywork sprayer:

  • prepares their own workplace and vehicle;
  • decides on the size of the repair area and the colour shades of paints and varnishes;
  • doses and adjusts the colour tones of paints and varnishes (original reference points, ageing, intended effects, etc.);
  • applies the paints and varnishes;
  • repairs spraying mistakes;
  • completes the follow-up documents for the work and passes the information on to the people involved;
  • is bound by manufacturer’s and supplier’s regulations, environmental and safety regulations, the guidelines of the manager and the work sheet.

If you want to demonstrate your experience as a bodywork sprayer at a validation body, you will need to take a practical test.

The language of instruction for the tests is Dutch. You will need at least a basic knowledge of Dutch to take the tests.

You will be tested on whether you can

  • determine the size of the repair area;
  • determine, measure and adjust the colour tones of paints and lacquers;
  • apply wet-on-wet primer, metallic base coat and varnish to a complete component;
  • apply metallic base coat and varnish to a component;
  • perform spot repairs on a component;
  • repair a spray error.
