The revenue of the Flemish government amounted to 57.4 billion euros in 2023. This is an increase of 9.1% compared to 2022 (in current prices). This concerns ESR revenue (open definition).
The revenue made a jump in 2015 as a result of the 6th state reform and the associated transfer of a number of federal powers to Flanders. Between 2014 and 2015, revenue increased from 27 to 38 billion euros. Since then, Flanders has received new grants (allowances) from the federal level in the context of the new powers.
In addition, the 6th state reform granted regional surcharges to the regions. This is the part of the personal income tax that is directly intended for the Flemish budget. Flanders determines these additional centimes autonomously, as a percentage of personal income tax for the benefit of the federal government.
