Car sharing

When you share a car, several people use one car. You use the car when you need it. When you don’t need it, someone else can use it. This way, the car is used better and more thoughtfully.

Car sharing is especially useful for:

  • someone who does not have a car, but could use one from time to time
  • someone who uses his (second) car rather little (less than 12,000 km per year)
  • someone who is considering buying a (second) car.

There are several ways of car sharing.

  • You can use the services of car-sharing organizations with their own cars. Those companies make their cars available to its members. The user pays the organization for the use of a car. The cars are spread over several sites in the immediate vicinity of the users.
  • There are also car-sharing organizations without their own cars, which have an online platform where owners can rent out their cars. Anyone who signs up as a user can rent any car on the platform at a price determined by the owner.
  • With private car sharing, the car is owned by a person. The owner does not make a profit, but receives the real cost of the car per mile shared. Thus, individuals can take the initiative to start a “car-sharing group” or they can join existing car-sharing groups, with their own agreements and rules.
